Wayzn Pet Tag is no exception. Re-entering the house unassisted may be a new behavior for your pet(s), so we suggest starting outside and building confidence that when the pet arrives the door will open. Watch for any signs of discomfort, anxiety, or fear, and immediately stop using the product if any of these symptoms are observed. For safety reasons, train your pet to immediately pass through the doorway completely when the door opens and not to delay action or sit or stand part-way through the opening. Operating the door with Wayzn Pet Tag unattended is a risky activity and failure to sufficiently train and monitor your pet using the system will put your pet at risk. If you have any doubts about your pet&apos;s ability to use the product safely, please discontinue use immediately and <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/contact">contact us</a> to arrange to return the product for a refund.</p><p><br></p><h4 id="it-is-for-secure-yards-only">It is for secure yards only</h4><p>Wayzn Pet Tag automates your Wayzn Smart Pet Door so your pet can exit and enter your home without your assistance. Giving your pet control over the door reduces security, thus Wayzn Pet Tag should only be used in secure yards. This administrative handshake process takes a few seconds and is necessary to check for new firmware or changes you make to your tag&apos;s settings in the Wayzn app. If this process is running when the tag approaches the receiver you may notice a slight delay before the door opens. Each of these components must be positioned correctly for the system to work properly. This article explains how to attach and position the receiver. After installing and setting up the receiver you will want to learn <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/how-to-attach-a-tag-to-your-pets-collar-222178">how to position and attach the tag</a>.</p><p>&#xA0;</p><h2 id="h_01GGB88X36S9J9380QH5QW2M1X">Positioning and attaching the receiver</h2><p>The very first step in setting up Wayzn Pet Tag is to install the receiver. For best results follow these guidelines:</p><p><br></p><h4 id="step-1---determine-the-best-placement"><strong>Step 1 - Determine the best placement</strong></h4><p>The position of the receiver has a strong impact on the performance of the system, so it is important to find the best placement for your home. Since you may need to adjust the placement, we recommend that you use some masking tape to attach the receiver initially, then use the included mounting tape after you are sure of the best placement.</p><p>For most homes, the <strong>standard placement</strong> is best. This means the receiver will be positioned parallel to the door. Place the receiver flat on the wall near where the door opens, leaving 1-2 inches between the receiver and any raised trim or door casing, as shown below. Make sure the logo is upright facing you and the button and light are facing up toward the ceiling.</p><p>Position the receiver at or slightly lower than the height of your pet&apos;s neck. If you have multiple pets that will be wearing tags, try using the average height or a slightly lower height.</p><p><img alt="Receiver_placement_2.jpg" src="https://hsfiles.gorgias.help/gm/help-centers/17840/attachments/9f22a74e-9ccb-4b33-8dcc-3c72c23461c2.jpg" class="fr-fic fr-dii"></p><p><br></p><p>In some homes this standard receiver placement may not be possible. If your door is insert more than six inches beyond the wall, or there is no nearby wall space that is parallel with the door, you may need to use a perpendicular installation.&#xA0;</p><p>When using the <strong>perpendicular placement</strong> (i.e. mounting the receiver perpendicular to the door) it may be necessary to reverse the receiver so the Wayzn logo faces the wall, as shown below. Try it the normal way, and if you still can&apos;t achieve optimal results try flipping it and test again.</p><p><img src="https://attachments.gorgias.help/qgaXzxaEEBoxvDWO/hc/v31pE7yDDB2ZaGQR/2024111218-89fd66bb-23d8-4801-a138-256f89faa8a9-img_5713.jpg" style="width: 687px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"></p><p><br></p><h4 id="step-2---stick-it-to-the-wall"><strong>Step 2 - Stick it to the wall</strong></h4><p>Do not proceed with this step until you have tested various placements and determined the best placement and orientation of the receiver for your home.</p><p>The receiver comes with removable mounting tape pre-applied. As mentioned, refrain from using the mounting tape at this time, and use removable tape such as masking tape until determining the optimal placement.</p><p>If using a<strong>&#xA0;standard placement</strong> (i.e. parallel to the door) the supplied mounting tape will be on the correct side of the receiver and you can proceed to use it. Simply remove the backing paper to reveal the sticky surface of the mounting tape, then press the receiver into position and apply pressure for ten seconds.&#xA0;</p><p>If using a <strong>perpendicular placement</strong> you will need to relocate the included mounting tape before using it. Begin by separating the two strips by pulling them apart until the hook and loop mechanism releases. Then gently pull the tab on the piece of tape that is adhered to the receiver to elongate and stretch the backing until it releases from the receiver. Discard the tape you removed, then take the extra piece of tape included with your receiver and apply it to the logo side of the receiver as shown below. Finally, stick the two strips of tape together using the hook and loop fasteners, then peel the backing on the outer strip and stick it to the wall in the optimal position you discovered in step 1.</p><p><img src="https://attachments.gorgias.help/qgaXzxaEEBoxvDWO/hc/v31pE7yDDB2ZaGQR/2024111218-693e7b0a-0e81-4d0a-b030-9b11a2fe49b4-img_5705.jpg" style="width: 683px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib"></p><p>You can temporarily remove the receiver at any time by pulling it off the wall, being careful not to remove the tape that is attached to the wall (and your paint along with it).</p><p>&#xA0;</p><h4 id="step-3---supply-power-to-the-receiver"><strong>Step 3 - Supply power to the receiver</strong></h4><p>Always use the plug and cable that were supplied with your Wayzn Pet Tag. Start by carefully inserting the Micro USB cable into the bottom of the receiver. Please note that this is a directional connector, so take care to ensure you have the connector oriented correctly before inserting it. To begin, on the home page, select the tile for the Smart Pet Door that operates the door where you installed the Wayzn Pet Tag receiver. To activate the receiver, hold the button on top of the receiver until the light on top of the receiver turns blue. After a slight delay the app will take you to the next step.</span></p><p><span class="wysiwyg-color-black" style="color: #000000;">Note: This receiver activation step is only required when adding your first tag, and the app will automatically bypass this step when adding additional tags.</span></p><p>&#xA0;</p><h4 id="step-4">Step 4</h4><p><span class="wysiwyg-color-black" style="color: #000000;">After your receiver is activated, the app will prompt you to insert the supplied battery into the tag. Inserting the battery puts the tag into pairing mode for 30 seconds. <strong>If you have previously inserted the battery, remove it and re-insert it now to place the tag into pairing mode</strong>.</span></p><p><span class="wysiwyg-color-black" style="color: #000000;">To remove the tag from the strap, gently stretch the strap to release the posts on all four edges until you can pull the tag from the strap.&#xA0;</span></p><p><span class="wysiwyg-color-black" style="color: #000000;">Once the tag enclosure is removed from the strap, open it by using your fingernails or a small screwdriver to separate the two halves. Start at one end and work your way around the enclosure in circles until the enclosure opens. Apply gentle sideways pressure on the cover as you press down to remove any air. Continue gently working the two halves of the enclosure together until you achieve a snug fit with no gaps along the seams.</span></p><p><span class="wysiwyg-color-black" style="color: #000000;">Next, re-insert the tag into the tag strap. Select &quot;Continue&quot;. You will be taken to the tag settings page. You can <a href="#settings">return to the tag settings page</a> anytime from the <strong id="isPasted">Connected Devices</strong> page by clicking on the name of any added Wayzn Pet Tag. Once on the tag settings page you can rename your tag, adjust the tag&apos;s responsiveness, and check the health of the tag&apos;s battery.</p><p><br></p><h4 class="wysiwyg-indent1" id="give-your-tag-a-name">Give your tag a name</h4><p class="wysiwyg-indent1">If you plan to have multiple tags in use, you can give each tag a unique name. This will make it easy to differentiate one tag from another when setting responsiveness or monitoring battery health. To name a tag, click the <strong id="isPasted">Rename</strong> link in the upper right of the screen. When prompted, enter the desired name and click <strong>Save</strong>. &#xA0;&#xA0;</p><p class="wysiwyg-indent1">&#xA0;</p><h4 class="wysiwyg-indent1" id="adjust-your-tags-responsiveness">Adjust your tag&apos;s responsiveness</h4><p class="wysiwyg-indent1">The <strong>Responsiveness</strong> slider controls how responsive the receiver will be when detecting the tag nearby. &#xA0;You can adjust the responsiveness for each tag individually. Moving the slider to &quot;Low&quot; will require your dog to sit or stand near the receiver for more time before the system responds, thus reducing the likelihood of the door opening when the dog is simply passing by. It may also require your pet to move slightly or even approach the area more than once before it is detected. Moving the slider to &quot;high&quot; will make the system respond faster but will increase the possibility of the door opening when the dog is simply passing by. Note: This setting may take time to reach the receiver, so changes may not take effect immediately.</p><p class="wysiwyg-indent1">&#xA0;</p><h4 class="wysiwyg-indent1" id="monitor-your-tags-battery-health">Monitor your tag&apos;s battery health</h4><p class="wysiwyg-indent1">The health of the tag battery is shown at the bottom of the page. This information is updated within two minutes after a tag detection occurs. If the battery health meter shows red it means the battery should be changed immediately. Follow these <a href="/hc/en-us/articles/10166104037005" target="_parent">instructions for changing the tag battery</a>.&#xA0;</p><p>If a tag is detected by the receiver and determined to have low battery health the Wayzn mobile app will provide a notification to your phone (if you have the Wayzn app closed or in the background, and you have <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/enable-notifications-221445">allowed notifications</a> in the app settings).</p><p>Before using Wayzn Pet Tag, please follow the link at the bottom of this page to learn how to correctly position and attach a tag to your pet&apos;s collar.&#xA0;</p><p><br></p><h4 id="reduce">Reduce Repeat Detections (If desired)</h4><p>You can enable the <strong>Reduce Repeat Detections</strong> feature if your door is opening and closing repeatedly. When enabled, a tag can be detected once, after which it will be ignored until it leaves the area for at least 30 seconds before returning.</p><h2 id="settings">Accessing the tag settings page</h2><p>You can return to the tag settings page anytime. To begin, in<strong><em>&#xA0;the Wayzn app</em></strong> on the home page select the Wayzn device associated with your tag. Once on the device page, use the ellipsis in the upper right corner to access the menu, then select <strong>Connected Devices</strong>. To add an additional tag, on the <strong>Connected Devices</strong> page click on <strong>Add Device</strong>. When prompted to choose the type of device, select <strong>Wayzn Pet Tag</strong>. If you already have a Wayzn Pet Tag receiver configured, <em><strong>the&#xA0;</strong></em><span class="wysiwyg-color-black" style="color: #000000;"><em><strong>Wayzn app</strong></em> will prompt you to insert the supplied battery into the tag. However, the signal sent by the tag is directional, so the Wayzn Pet Tag must be placed on the correct side to work effectively.</p><p>Position the Wayzn tag so it faces toward the receiver when the pet is <u>entering</u> the home. After setting up your Wayzn Pet Tag, you can enable this feature so Wayzn Pet Tag opens the door when you are home, when you are away, or both.</p><p><em id="isPasted">Important Note:</em> For safety reasons, you can not simultaneously enable <strong>Open upon motion</strong> and <strong>Open with Pet Tag</strong> for the same location (Home/Away).</p><p><br></p><h4 id="step-1">Step 1</h4><p>In<strong><em>&#xA0;</em></strong>the Wayzn app on the home page select the tile for the Wayzn Smart Pet Door you wish to automate. To enable this feature to work while your device is in &apos;Away Mode&apos; use the similar toggle in the Away section.</p><p><em>Important Note:</em> If you have any concerns about the security of your yard, we recommend leaving this feature off for &apos;Away Mode&apos; to reduce any risk of unwanted entry that may occur if your pet is lured toward the door. Instead, we suggest using a security camera to notify you of motion in the area and allow you to view the surroundings before using the Wayzn app to open and close the door.&#xA0;</p><p>&#xA0;<img src="https://attachments.gorgias.help/uploads.gorgias.io/qgaXzxaEEBoxvDWO/undefined-9fb511cf-d1b5-4672-a07e-d428fc14541e" style="width: 300px;" class="fr-fic fr-dib fr-fil"></p><hr><p><br></p><h2 id="h_01GSRSJRST7B7MNHAYB1TZ7H3C">Enabling a custom schedule</h2><p>Using the Schedule feature is completely optional. However, <strong>if you have set a custom schedule, features like motion detection and connected devices will only be able to operate your Wayzn Smart Pet Door during scheduled times</strong>. By default, the schedule is enabled for all days and times. If you wish to modify your scheduled automation times, follow these <a href="/hc/en-us/articles/4418113817869" target="_parent">instructions for using the Schedule feature</a>.</p><hr><p><br></p><h2 id="h_01GSRTR6NHDD3T4FV0KQYP9BT5">Using Wayzn Pet Tag -- what you should know</h2><p>If you&apos;ve followed all the steps for installing and setting up Wayzn Pet Tag, you&apos;re now ready to begin using it! Here&apos;s what you should know, and what to expect:</p><p><br></p><h4 id="isPasted">The tag battery must be changed periodically</h4><p>The health of the tag battery is shown at the bottom of the tag settings page, accessed via the &quot;Connected Devices&quot; menu item. If the battery health meter shows red it means the battery should be changed immediately. Follow these <a href="/hc/en-us/articles/10166104037005" target="_parent">instructions for changing the tag battery</a>.&#xA0;</p><p>If a tag is detected by the receiver and determined to have low battery health the Wayzn mobile app will provide a notification to your phone (if you have the Wayzn app closed or in the background, and you have <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/enable-notifications-221445">allowed notifications</a> in the app settings).&#xA0;</p><p><br></p><h4 id="the-led-may-blink-red">The LED may blink red</h4><p>When new firmware is available for your receiver or tags it will be downloaded from the Wayzn Smart Pet Door to the receiver. The system gives priority to tag detection, but approximately every 30 seconds it will spend a few seconds downloading the new firmware. The LED will blink red while downloading, and tag detection will not be available during the download. Transferring firmware from the receiver to the tag occurs when you change the battery and is explained in the <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/changing-the-tag-battery-222183">instructions for changing the tag battery.</a></p><p><br></p><h4 id="isPasted">It requires training and must be used with care</h4><p>Anytime you introduce a new technology it is important to slowly and carefully acclimate your pet. Wayzn Pet Tag is no exception. Re-entering the house unassisted may be a new behavior for your pet(s), so we suggest starting outside and building confidence that when the pet arrives the door will open. Watch for any signs of discomfort, anxiety, or fear, and immediately stop using the product if any of these symptoms are observed. For safety reasons, train your pet to immediately pass through the doorway completely when the door opens and not to delay action or sit or stand part-way through the opening. Operating the door with Wayzn Pet Tag unattended is a risky activity and failure to sufficiently train and monitor your pet using the system will put your pet at risk. If you have any doubts about your pet&apos;s ability to use the product safely, please discontinue use immediately and <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/contact">contact us</a> to arrange to return the product for a refund.</p><p><br></p><h4 id="it-is-for-secure-yards-only">It is for secure yards only</h4><p>Wayzn Pet Tag automates your Wayzn Smart Pet Door so your pet can exit and enter your home without your assistance. Giving your pet control over the door reduces security, thus Wayzn Pet Tag should only be used in secure yards. If you have any concerns at all about the safety of your home or pet, do not use Wayzn Pet Tag. Instead, please <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/contact">contact us</a> to arrange to return the product for a refund. If you notice your pet&apos;s tag is missing, immediately <a href="https://help.wayzn.com/en-US/delete-and-remove-wayzn-pet-tag-237112">remove the tag from the Wayzn app</a> until it is recovered or replaced.</p><p><br></p><h4 id="it-may-not-respond-instantly">It may not respond instantly</h4><p>Your Pet Tag receiver has to listen for tags, but it also needs to periodically check in with your Wayzn Smart Pet Door and the Wayzn cloud, which it does approximately every thirty seconds. This administrative handshake process takes about ten seconds and is necessary to check for new firmware or changes you make to your tag&apos;s settings in the Wayzn app. If this process is running when the tag approaches the receiver you may notice a slight lag before the door opens. Set your Smart Pet Door to work with Wayzn Pet Tag

When your tag battery health is running low, follow these steps.

<h4 id="important-when-you-replace-the-battery-the-tag-must-be-near-the-receiver-the-tag-will-immediately-check-for-new-firmware-when-the-battery-is-inserted-and-if-new-firmware-is-available-it-will-download-it-during-this-time-your-entire-wayzn-smart-pet-door-system-will-be-unavailable-and-the-process-should-complete-within-a-few-minutes-or-less-your-tag-can-not-begin-normal-operation-until-the-firmware-check-and-any-necessary-download-is-complete-for-this-reason-be-sure-to-keep-your-tag-within-a-few-feet-of-the-receiver-every-time-you-change-the-battery"><strong>IMPORTANT</strong>: <u>When you replace the battery, the tag must be near the receiver.</u> The tag will immediately check for new firmware when the battery is inserted, and if new firmware is available it will download it. During this time your entire Wayzn Smart Pet Door system will be unavailable, and the process should complete within a few minutes or less. Your tag can not begin normal operation until the firmware check and any necessary download is complete. For this reason, be sure to keep your tag within a few feet of the receiver every time you change the battery.</h4><p><br></p><h4 id="isPasted">Step 1</h4><p>Position the tag near the receiver.</p><p><br></p><h4 id="step-2">Step 2</h4><p>Remove the tag from the strap by gently stretching the strap to release the top and side posts, then pull the tag from the strap to release the bottom post.</p><p>&#xA0;</p><h4 id="step-3">Step 3</h4><p>Open the enclosure by using your fingernails or a small screwdriver to separate the two halves. Start at one end and work your way around the enclosure in circles until the enclosure opens. &#xA0;</p><p>&#xA0;</p><h4 id="step-4">Step 4</h4><p>Remove the old battery&#xA0;by pressing on the edge of the battery nearest the end of the tag enclosure.</p><p>&#xA0;</p><h4 id="step-5">Step 5</h4><p>Insert a new CR2032 battery with the plus sign (positive terminal) facing you.</p><p>&#xA0;</p><h4 id="step-6">Step 6</h4><p id="isPasted"><span style="color: #000000;">After installing the battery, replace the enclosure cover so that the long post of the enclosure base and the long post of the enclosure cover are aligned with one another. Apply gentle sideways pressure on the cover as you press down to remove any air. Continue gently working the two halves of the enclosure together until you achieve a snug fit with no gaps along the seams.</span></p><p><span style="color: #000000;">Next, re-insert the tag into the tag strap.
